Hi everyone, My friends and I are having a Halloween party this year and so I've been pretty busy making costumes for myself and my friends. And here is one of the costumes I've made for one of my close friends and fellow cosplayer, (for security's sake) Tiga (picking the name herself) , she's cosplaying as Chocola. Chocola is the bubbly young neko from the visual novel series Nekopara. Chocola wears a variety of outfits through the series, but the one that I will be making is the work uniform, a maid style outfit. Im making this costume for my friend who is just as bubbly as Chocola. The costume is still a work in progress but it's almost finished. I've had the most fun making the skirt, the skirt has two fabric layers, the outer layer is black with a scalloped edge, a white layer underneath and four layers of tulle to make it fluffy and full. To make the skirt I folded a large piece of fabric into quarters and used a dressmakers pencil to mark a quarter circle for the waist and the length of the skirt. If you want to use this technique (which I highly recommend) practice on a small square first because it is very easy to make a mistake when cutting. The dress has many parts to it and has taken up many weekends to complete. For me the toughest part was the upper portion of the dress, I made it from several different little pieces because I didn't use a pattern to make the dress all the problems I had making it in the end came down to me not having a pattern, but right now I don't really know how to make a pattern for a dress this complex. This made it really difficult to make the dress without Tiga there, so we had to arrange many weekends and days after school to work on the dress. I recently aquired a dressmaking mannequin from a friend of my Mum's and I'm using that to make sure Tiga's costume doesn't get crushed in my wardrobe. On the dress itself there are seven pink bows that I made these from some leftover pink felt, and with the power of a hot glue gun. This costume so far has been really fun to make and I think the best part was getting her to try it on and seeing her so happy and running around my apartment in excitement. I hope your Halloween plans go smoothly and you have lots of fun in cosplay, -Jasmine
